Speak English, please!

Oh, how I long for a Seinfeld rerun, the golden girls, Frazier, oh the list goes on and on.

I have three channels on my TV that are in English and it is all news. Like a good little newbie I watched Italian TV when I first got here. I was in serious student mode. That was then, this is now.

Of course, I am going to continue to study when and if I want to. It’s fun? Kinda? It is amusing to fill out little worksheets matching the emotion in Italian to the cartoon face. My worksheets look like a mess when I am finished. Even I can’t tell what I was trying to figure out.

I spend a few hours each morning with fellow beginners. Then I head out into the little town. The people who work in Taormina are so good at what they do. I don’t ask them to endure my stumbling Italian. Yes, they sometimes struggle with English but the English they speak is leaps and bounds better than my Italian.

Right now, I am wondering just what the heck I am doing here!

It’s an adventure, right?
