A lovely couple from Pennsylvania

It doesn’t matter where you go in Sicily, you will meet someone and you will make a connection.

Today, I met a lovely couple from northeast Pennsylvania. Debbie has family in Sicily and she and her husband John made the trip with a few family members and a larger group of older people who won’t make any effort to move. They loved Sicily and also knew they didn’t have the experience they hoped for.

Debbie was able to meet some of her extended family in a tiny village in the middle of Sicily. She told me this little town has fewer than 1,000 inhabitants, down from 10,000 people who lived there a few decades ago. We shared wine and stories and phone numbers. I expect we will stay in touch. In Sicily decades are moments and family is forever. I told them a bit of my love of Sicily. They definitely want to return to this island. Who wouldn’t?

Nothing like this ever happens to me in Virginia.
