Edenton, North Carolina

On a whim, I got in my car this morning and drove about 1 1/2 hours south to a small town on the Albemarle Sound in eastern North Carolina.

The day played out like a chapter in a summer beach read. Lunch included interesting conversation with a couple celebrating 50 years of marriage. The trolley tour was getting ready to leave and I walked out the restaurant. Can I hop on? Sure, for $12 you can get an historic tour of this many century old town. How about the weather? It has been brutal here in south eastern Virginia this summer. Today was a glorious summer day.

At a small farm stand on the side of the divided highway thru the beautiful Dismal Swamp on the border of Virginia and North Carolina I bought a watermelon that is deceptively heavy. It is going to be delicious. The tomatoes and corn were fresh from the field that morning or the day before. No question, the whole day was the real deal in a surreal way. Too perfect? Why that’s impossible.

Good night and sweet dreams!
