When I made my trips to Europe last year I was hoping to find somewhere to teach English. I would study the local language but my primary focus would be “the English teacher.”
Moving to Europe is not an easy feat. Most countries don’t want ex-pats to take a job from the locals. I completely agree. But learning English from a native speaker is every wannabe English speaker’s dream. I planned to volunteer my services.
In Texas, the staff at the front desk of the hotels speak English. In other words, the front house. Today I had an internet ordeal that took a visit from IT to come to my room. We couldn’t resolve the issue because even the IT team speaks little if any English. I had to use my pigeon Spanish with the housekeeping staff in San Antonio.
I could move to any one of a number of southwest US states and have a line up of people wanting to learn English. I did a mini lesson with my IT specialist. He was so unsure of his English he had to use google translate. He will never learn English if that is how he continues to communicate with English speakers.
Too bad I sincerely do NOT like Texas! Arizona? Maybe.
